This weekend’s matchups showcase four teams — New York Nitro, Brooklyn Blaze, L.A. Launch, and San Diego Smash (player bios below). In day one, they battled it out on the sand, setting the tone for what promises to be an entertaining season of competition. 

In the highlight matchups of the day, New York Nitro made a strong statement by defeating Brooklyn Blaze in both the men’s and women’s categories. Kelly Cheng/Sarah Hughes defeated Terese Cannon/Megan Kraft, 15-13, 16-14 while Taylor Crabb/Taylor Sander defeated Cody Caldwell/Seain Cook 15-10, 15-11.  

The San Diego Smash versus Los Angeles Launch women’s matchup was also decided in three games, with L.A.’s Julia Scoles and Betsi Flint taking the win 9-15, 19-17, 15-12 over San Diego’s Genna Urango and Toni Rodriguez. Match 1 Results: Cheng/Hughes def. Cannon/Kraft, 15-13, 16-14 Match 2 Results:
