Ruth Ruiz has been named to the newly-created position of Director, Marketing and Communications at Historic Dodgertown – Vero Beach, Florida, it was announced today by Historic Dodgertown Chairman Peter O’Malley.

Ruiz has a longtime connection with the Los Angeles Dodgers, as she worked as a team publicist from 1986-2001, including three years when she assisted former Dodger President O’Malley (1993-96) on administrative matters and worldwide events. Ruiz also coordinated the daily schedule and public relations for Tommy Lasorda, the Hall of Fame Dodger manager.

“Ruth Ruiz has a passion for Historic Dodgertown and Vero Beach, so this is a perfect match,” said O’Malley. “We are happy that she is returning to her Dodger roots and with her knowledge and countless contacts, she will make an immediate impact in our efforts to gain more recognition for our year-round, multi-sports training and conference center. Ruth is congenial and is a unifier.”

With the Dodger publicity department, Ruiz coordinated community events, media inquiries on and off the field, wrote feature articles and press releases and was at Historic Dodgertown handling public relations during Spring Trainings, as well as for numerous Dodger Adult Baseball Camps in Vero Beach. She worked closely with Dodger players, executives, alumni and staff.

Ruiz said, “This is a dream come true. I am so excited to be moving to Vero Beach and happy to be back at Historic Dodgertown to help the O’Malley family continue the further development and enhancement of the training and conference center. Although my roots are in Dodger baseball, it is wonderful to see that Historic Dodgertown now fully embraces all sports and we welcome athletes of all ages to our campus. I look forward to working with Vice Presidents Craig Callan, Jeff Biddle and Steve Snure as we prepare for the future and many exciting projects.”

After her career with the Dodgers, Ruiz handled marketing for Biola University’s Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MOL) program from 2001-2005. She also was Director of Communications for Special Olympics of Southern California (2005-2008).

For the past eight years, she has been City of Anaheim’s Public Information Officer and spokesperson, working in cooperation with the Mayor, City Council and City’s executive team. Her expertise includes marketing, media and player relations, writing, event planning, community and industry collaboration and relationship building.

Ruiz graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in communications, with an emphasis in sports information and she also earned a Master of Arts degree in organizational leadership from Biola University.
