The band’s new album, I Built You a Tower, arrives on June 5

Death Cab for Cutie stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to showcase their recent single, “Riptides.” The rock band took the late-night show stage for an energetic performance of the track, which reflects on the challenge of dealing with personal struggles as the world goes through even larger losses and struggles.

“I’m too tired to talk, I’m too tired to end the war,” frontman Ben Gibbard croons on the mid-tempo single. “And I can’t seem to hold it together anymore/ I’m too tired to start, I can’t bring you up to speed/ There’s too many riptides in this ocean to proceed.”

“Riptides” comes off the band’s 11th studio album, I Built You a Tower, out June 5 via ANTI- Records. I Built You A Tower was recorded at Animal Rites in Los Angeles, as well as the band members’ homes in Seattle, Bellingham, Los Angeles, and Portland. It was produced and engineered by John Congleton and assembled from three weeks of recording sessions. The band also shared a second single, “Punching the Flowers,” in April.

Death Cab for Cutie will embark on a North American summer tour in support of the album. Following a show in May in Denver, the trek officially kicks off on July 10 in Minneapolis and continues through Aug. 9, when the band performs at Outside Lands in San Francisco. The musicians will then head to the U.K. and Europe for a series of shows in September and October.
