The topic of J.J. McCarthy is quite a debated one, both among Minnesota Vikings fans and across the NFL as a whole. Some believe that he showed flashes of promise last season, and it is too early to abandon ship. Others downplay his potential, labeling him a bust of a pick and that the franchise should move on. What will happen is anyone’s guess, but this Vikings legend shared something interesting he heard recently.
While appearing on The Purple Persuasion podcast, Cris Carter shared some insight on who really believes in McCarthy in this front office, and who he was taken to be “their guy”.
“Well, this is the thing. Internally, you know what we hear and from the people I talked to, he was the general manager’s (Kwesi Adofo-Mensah) guy. Not the coaches guy”
Carter said the quiet part out loud. The writing has been on the wall for the better part of a year that Kevin O’Connell did not want McCarthy and does not see him in his long-term plans. This makes the Kyler Murray signing make even more sense, as O’Connell knows this is a playoff-caliber team, but in order to do so, they need an actual quarterback under center.
