Raheem Sterling arrested on suspicion of drug-driving

Former England international Raheem Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after allegedly being involved in a road collision.

Sterling, 31, was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen, according to The Sun.

His arrest came after a Lamborghini collided with barriers on the M3 in Hampshire on Thursday morning.

The Feyenoord winger has been bailed while an investigation is ongoing.

The Hampshire Police statement given to The Sun read: “Just before 9am on Thursday, we received reports that a Lamborghini was in collision with barriers on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange.

“No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

“The driver, a 31-year-old man, from Berkshire, has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. He has been bailed while our enquiries continue.”

Sterling’s representatives have been contacted for comment by The Athletic.

The forward joined Feyenoord in February after after a mutual agreement was reached to terminate his Chelsea contract 18 months early. He made eight Eredivisie appearances for the Dutch club during the second half of the 2025-26 season.

Sterling made 396 Premier League appearances after breaking through at Liverpool and moving to Manchester City in 2015, winning four English top-flight titles.

He joined Chelsea from City in the summer of 2022 for £47.5million ($65.5m). He spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal but fell out of favour under former head coach Enzo Maresca on his return.

Sterling was capped 82 times by England between 2012 and 2022, scoring 20 goals.
