Nuevo León Governor Samuel García said he has secured US $600 million in investment to develop industrial facilities, primarily data centers, in his state.

The governor made the announcement during his most recent working tour of New York, which concluded Friday. The source of the investment was not given, but it is known that it will go to projects in the cities of Apodaca and Pesquería, expanding on the ongoing investment boom in the border state that has led to the recent inauguration of several tech, data processing and manufacturing facilities.

The new capital brings total foreign investment in Nuevo León in 2026 to $136.6 billion, according to the governor. “I have no doubt that by December we’ll reach $140 billion,” he said.

García said that Nuevo León is attractive to investors thanks to its strong infrastructure, energy and water availability, the industrial parks in Apodaca and the tax-free Colombia Customs Office.

“Also coming… are the Volvo industrial facility in Ciénega, the Bobcat industrial facility… the Unilever facility in Salinas Victoria, and we just inaugurated the LEGO facility,” García said. “The most important thing is that multinational companies are building their largest facilities, their biggest factories in the world, in Nuevo León.”

The restrictions of a stressed power grid

Though Gov. Gacría insists that his state’s energy supply attracts investment, power grid limitations are a growing problem across the nation. Querétaro state is a case in point.

Investors have announced several multimillion-dollar data center projects in the Bajío state in recent years, drawn by its proximity to the United States, with tech majors such as Amazon, Cloud HQ, Equinix, Microsoft and Ascenty opening facilities.

But the growth of the data center industry has revealed major bottlenecks in Querétaro’s transmission infrastructure.

In Querétaro, the aging electrical grid has proven insufficient for industrial development, and neighboring towns often experience power outages despite the inauguration of a natural gas-fired power plant in December 2025.

Meanwhile, research from the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) suggests that the grid limitations must be addressed to support the expansion of the data center industry.
