Breaking with the usual trend of early cancellations, this streaming season stands out for the return of beloved national titles that are reappearing to delight their audiences and, in some cases, bring their stories to a definitive conclusion.
From magical realism to suspense to coming-of-age dramas, fans of Mexican television have a lot to celebrate. Brothers Vadhir and José Eduardo Derbez recently returned to Prime Video and ViX with a hilarious reality TV show that chronicles their chaotic efforts to take over the tourism and hospitality industry along the coast of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Meanwhile, the all-time classic “Como Agua para Chocolate” also makes a return to screens.
But the streaming feast in 2026 does not end there. The lineup will soon be rounded out with new seasons of Prime Video’s beloved teen comedy, “Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar,” and Apple TV+’s period crime thriller, “Las Azules,” which has established itself as one of the most ambitious crime dramas of recent years.

‘Como Agua para Chocolate’ — Season 2
In the first half of 2026, the forbidden romance between Tita de la Garza and Pedro Múzquiz came to a close in the second and final season of “Como Agua para Chocolate.”
Based on the celebrated 1989 novel by Mexican author Laura Esquivel, and brought to television under the executive production of Salma Hayek Pinault — yes, that Salma Hayek — the miniseries has become a resounding success for HBO and one of the most notable Latin American television adaptations in recent years.
“It’s been incredible to see how such an important Mexican story has resonated with audiences around the world,” Hayek said recently at a promotional event in London.
In the finale of this six-episode series, young Tita discovers the hope of a new future alongside the kindhearted Dr. Brown, played by Francisco Angelini. However, the unexpected return of Pedro, the love of her life, reignites her forbidden passion, challenging the family traditions imposed by her authoritarian mother.
Set against the backdrop of a turbulent Mexico in the midst of social transformation, Tita and Pedro — united by the depth of their feelings and the alchemy of cooking — will discover that some loves, no matter how difficult they may seem, are impossible to extinguish.
‘Par de Ideotas: La Experiencia del Alacrán’ — Season 2
After becoming one of the biggest surprises of 2025, the irreverent reality TV show by brothers Vadhir and José Eduardo Derbez, “Par de Ideotas” (“Pair of Idiots”), recently returned with a run of eight episodes. The series airs on Prime Video in Latin America and on ViX in the United States.
For those who are not yet familiar with the project, this comedy docuseries follows the adventures of the Derbez duo as they set out to bring their most daring and unlikely business ventures to life. In its debut, we witnessed how the sons of renowned comedian and actor Eugenio Derbez joined forces to take on Mexico City’s nightlife scene. There, they opened a short-lived pop-up bar that changed its theme every night.
For this new season, subtitled “The Scorpion Experience,” the production team took the duo’s adventures to the idyllic Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, raising the stakes to a whole new level. Amid waves and new financial challenges, the brothers gave their all to become the ultimate hosts of the region’s beaches, delivering a much freer and more irreverent brand of humor.
Under the direction of Javier Williams, Nick Lee and Pablo Calasso, the episodes delivered a fun mix of adventure, brotherhood, wit and chaos, successfully capturing the spontaneity and charisma of the Derbez family.

‘Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar’ — Season 2
It is official: The second season of “Nadie Nos Va a Extrañar” will arrive on Prime Video in August 2026. After taking the world by storm in 2024 with its raw, honest portrayal of adolescence, this Mexican gem is set to return in a big way.
Over the course of its eight episodes, the first season transported viewers to the 1990s, just before the economic crisis that shook Mexico. Against this backdrop, the show follows five endearing teenagers who run a clandestine but lucrative “knowledge trafficking” business from the hallways of their high school. Taking advantage of the fact that no one ever suspects the most diligent students, the group — made up of Tenoch (Virgilio Delgado), Daniela (Macarena Oz), Álex (Nicolás Haza), Marifer (Camila Calónico) and Memo (Axel Madrazo) — sells homework and school projects, using their social invisibility as the perfect shield to make their shrewd venture thrive.
Spoiler alert: Although specific details about the new episodes are limited, the plot is expected to delve into the emotional aftermath of grief and the collective impact following Memo’s loss. Under the sensitive direction of Catalina Aguilar Mastretta and Samuel Kishi, this season will continue to explore its signature themes: self-discovery, mental health, sexual identity, the value of unconditional friendship and the bittersweet transition into adulthood.
‘Las Azules’ — Season 2
After winning over audiences and receiving an International Emmy nomination in September 2025, the crime drama “Las Azules” will return for its second season. Although the production has not yet announced an exact premiere date, anticipation is high to see the continuation of this powerful and inspiring story.
Created by Fernando Rovzar and Pablo Aramendi for Apple TV+, the series chronicles the early days of Mexico’s first all-female police force. This new batch of episodes transports viewers back to the vibrant — yet deeply conservative — Mexico of the 1970s, but now amid a far more dangerous and sinister atmosphere.
What the new season of ‘Las Azules’ has in store
Picking up the story right where the first season left off — following a crime that exposed a network of systemic corruption — the fearless María (Bárbara Mori), now promoted to lieutenant, faces a heart-wrenching dilemma between her duty and her relentless pursuit of justice. By her side, her loyal allies — Ángeles (Ximena Sariñana), Gabina (Amorita Rasgado) and Valentina (Natalia Téllez) — must navigate a labyrinth of secrets and betrayals that will test their courage.
Rovzar, the series’ creator and director, explained that the second season — which will consist of eight episodes — moves away from the “serial killer” trope to focus on a deep conspiracy plot. This shift not only heightens the suspense but also allows for a deeper exploration of the challenges the female officers face within a predominantly male institutional structure.
