Olivia Benson has been keeping New York safe for nearly three decades — and Hulu has enough “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” to keep viewers occupied for nearly as long.
Ahead of the procedural’s Season 28 premiere on Oct. 8, all 27 previously aired seasons of Dick Wolf’s long-running NBC drama are currently available to stream on Hulu, totaling 589 episodes. Hulu plans currently start at $11.99 per month.
Season 28 premieres Thursday, Oct. 8 on NBC. Viewers who want to watch new episodes live without traditional cable can do so through Hulu + Live TV, which carries NBC in participating markets and currently starts at $89.99 per month. New Season 28 episodes will also be available to stream on Peacock the day after their NBC broadcast.
The new season once again finds Mariska Hargitay at the center of the action as Capt. Olivia Benson, a role she has played since SVU first premiered in 1999. Ice-T returns as Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, alongside Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins, Peter Scanavino as Sonny Carisi, Kevin Kane as Terry Bruno and Aimé Donna Kelly as Renee Curry.
Season 28 is shaping up to be a particularly consequential one for Benson. Showrunner Michele Fazekas has teased a season-long storyline examining the toll that decades of working Special Victims cases has taken on the veteran captain. She’ll also get a new sounding board in “Succession” star J. Smith-Cameron, who joins the season in a recurring role as Gwen. “SVU” will also reach its 600th episode during Season 28 and Fazekas has hinted that the landmark episode could also bring a familiar face back into Benson’s orbit.
Hargitay, meanwhile, enters the season after an especially busy year outside the squad room. The actor hosted the 78th Emmy Awards on Sept. 14 and used the gig to stage an elaborate SVU sketch featuring Ice-T, Giddish and the rest of the cast — plus a surprise appearance from longtime superfan Taylor Swift as a rookie detective. Hargitay has also recently spoken about wanting to continue playing Benson through a potential 30th season.
