Donald Trump posted more than 1,300 words slamming Bill Maher, just nine days after praising the “great ” dinner at the White House with the Real Time host.
Trump was upset over some of the jokes and comments that Maher made on Friday’s show. Maher praised the Oct. 15 dinner too, in which they were joined by Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock, but his Friday show set Trump off, including Maher’s references to the president’s low approval numbers.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “There were so many other falsehoods Bill spewed, but I won’t waste time in FACT CHECKING him. He isn’t worth it. Bill: Don’t call anymore. It’s useless, and tell Chuck LaBella not to call so much, and say how much you love ‘TRUMP,’ and want to get together, because you’re a hopeless guy, who is just trying to cater to your small group of ‘fans.’” LaBella is a longtime producer with Maher.
In his Trump Social post, Trump called Maher a “pothead” and said he “looked like hell this time.” He also said that Maher “was drunk and had alcohol in his hand as he walked through the White House” The president also challenged Maher’s claim that the dinner lasted four hours.
Trump wrote, “Overall, I thought it was a good meeting. It didn’t last four hours, it lasted two hours, maybe less, and everybody was happy. We have the timestamps. I learned nothing, and felt it was a waste of time.”
A spokesperson for Maher did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump’s post is a bit of deja vu. Maher dined at the White House last year and later was complimentary to Trump, but the president later attacked the host and deemed the experience a “total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House.” But a new dinner was arranged for earlier this month, and Trump initially deemed the evening “very informative.”
“Smart people. Stephen A. is great. Bill Maher — I will tell you what. He likes me a lot more than people understand, and I actually like him. It was a good dinner,” Trump told reporters last week.
On Friday, Maher’s guest was former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who stayed loyal throughout. During the interview, Maher called Trump half sane.”
At the White House dinner, Maher said, “We have a nice conversation and he goes, ‘You’re my enemy. Pass the peas.’ I mean, he will say that, ‘You’re my enemy,’ and then a minute later, we’re just talking normally, and we don’t act like enemies.”
In his monologue, Maher made a joke about Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy running an ad featuring Democrat Amy Acton’s mother, saying she doesn’t trust her daughter. Ramaswamy has defended the spot, even though Acton says her mother stayed with her step father. He was charged with sexually abusing Amy Acton when she was a child.
Maher joked, “Trump said this is fair game. A 12-year-old rape victim is fair game? I know that looks bad. It sounds better on a birthday card to Jeffrey Epstein.”
Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday, “After the first dinner, Bill Maher was friendly, I guess, everyone walked away pleased. He gave me a good first show, with lots of Laughing Machine laughter, which is a real term, but it is what it is, and then reverted back to his former self, and his old ways. I understand that. He’s doing his thing. I never took it very personally. I would always mock his Low Ratings, whenever I heard. He’s not a nice guy, and what he spouts isn’t what he believes. He has to cater to his base, which is mostly composed of Losers, and people who don’t like working.”
