It’s been a hell of a summer for Twin Temple. The self-professed satanists saw their dark star rise earlier this month when country singer Charley Crockett allegedly removed them from his tour because of their use of “satanic imagery,” propelling the husband-and-wife duo into the spotlight and earning them an invitation from Jack White to open one of his shows. On Wednesday, singer Alexandra James and guitarist Zachary James got more return from their presumed deal with the devil when they made their late-night TV debut on The Daily Show. Twin Temple performed “Haunt Me,” off their forthcoming album Doomed…
The Bank of England will announce its latest decision on interest rates at midday on Thursday against a backdrop of renewed volatility in energy prices following the flare-up in the US-Iran conflict. So far, there is little sign of the energy shock fuelling broader price pressures in the economy. With inflation running below the BoE’s previous forecasts, analysts think the bank’s Monetary Policy Committee will feel able to hold interest rates at 3.75 per cent. But they say it will also want to “talk tough” and reinforce market expectations that it will be ready to raise rates later in the year if…

On Wednesday, three Greek firefighters died battling blazes during high winds on Crete and on the mainland, and two more were lightly injured.
Daily Newsletter Study respondents reacted more negatively toward artists committing sexual assault than murder. Plus, an unexpected pairing with Picasso’s “Guernica.” You know, I’ve long wondered what exactly gets you canceled in the art world, because it doesn’t seem like a whole lot does. A recent psychological study is somewhat illuminating: Respondents reacted more negatively toward an artist accused of sexual assault compared to one accused of murder. In this time of war, the Reina Sofía puts art history’s most recognizable anti-war painting — Picasso’s “Guernica” (1937) — in dialogue with other artworks to explore political parallels. Right now, it’s paired…

A small dog resembling a Chihuahua has become the newest — and perhaps unlikeliest — face of Mexico’s National Guard, after troopers in the northern border state of Chihuahua adopted him from an elderly couple who could no longer care for him. The mixed-breed dog, named Comando, has spent the past four months living at the National Guard’s state coordination headquarters in Chihuahua, where he now follows officers’ routines and responds to their orders. 🇲🇽🐕 ¡Mordidas por la patria!: un perro adoptado luce el uniforme de la Guardia Nacional de México 🪖 Su nombre es “Comando”, un cachorro de raza…

The White House has gone on the offensive after Noah Kahan criticized president Donald Trump for using his music in social media propaganda. The brewing beef stems from the administration’s videos and photos posted to TikTok and Instagram cued to Kahan’s song “American Cars” from his fourth studio album, the Billboard 200 No. 1 LP The Great Divide, all part of an exercise to celebrate Trump’s visit to a Michigan auto plant this week where the POTUS touted cars made in America. The 29-year-old Vermont-bred singer and songwriter wasn’t thrilled by the situation. “Would never approve of my music being used…
