The Kansas City Chiefs moved to 2-0 on the new season after earning a 33-30 victory in overtime over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The Chiefs had to pull out all the stops, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes recording 384 total passing yards on the night on 32 completed passes (out of 47 attempts), and they sent the Colts spiraling further by handing them their ninth consecutive defeat dating back to last season.

Suffice to say, the Colts’ defense hasn’t been very good to start the season. After allowing Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson to go for 324 total yards in their 41-24 loss in Week 1, the Colts allowed Mahomes to carve up their defense once more. Nonetheless, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid knows that Indianapolis has plenty of talent in its defensive ranks, suggesting that it’s only a matter of time before they coalesce.
“That’s a good front, real good front,” Reid said, per Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

The Colts, however, have a long way to go before fixing whatever it is that’s ailing them. They have now allowed the most yards to opponents through the first two games of the season at 1,029, breaking the record the Seattle Seahawks set back in 1976 (884 yards).

Still, the Chiefs can only play the opponents in front of them, and they took advantage of a Colts defense that did not provide much resistance on Sunday. Reid, of course, is just being wary of how capable Indianapolis can be when they’re at their best. After all, they started last season with an 8-2 record.

The good news for the Chiefs is that Mahomes appears to be back to his pre-injury form. He did start off the 2026 season slowly, as he took a backseat to the running game in their 31-10 win in Week 1 over the Broncos. If he continues to show off this kind of form, Kansas City is going to be difficult to stop moving forward.
