LAFC has made history once again. The greatest Asian footballer of all-time and a former Premier League Golden Boot winner, “Sonny” is known throughout the world for his scoring ability, his leadership, and his standing as Korea’s favorite son. And now he has joined LAFC to a Designated Player contract through 2027 with options into 2029.
The fifth-leading scorer in Tottenham history, Son has chosen Los Angeles as the next step in his remarkable career, which includes serving as captain for Spurs and the South Korean National Team. He joins an LAFC side that has won four major trophies in less than eight years of play, and that currently sits near the top of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference standings. And he moves to a city with the largest Korean population outside of Asia.
Son’s arrival pairs him with three-time MLS All Star and 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga, adding more firepower to an already dynamic attack, and places him in the same shirt once again as his longtime Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris, LAFC’s All-Star goalie and Son’s predecessor as Spurs’ captain.
