The Mexican Government doing the construction of the New International Tulum Airport, whose name will be Felipe Carrillo Puerto. In the same way as the Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Edomex, the construction of the new airfield is in charge of the (Sedena) Secretariat of National Defense.

The Tulum Airport will have an investment of 3,200 million pesos and is being built on 1,200 acres. It is expected to be the second busiest airport in the Southeast, only after Cancun.
It is intended to serve around 6 million passengers per year.
