The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “The end of the Universal Credit uplift today will have a devastating impact on the poorest and most vulnerable Londoners, leaving thousands of families struggling to heat their homes and put food on the table this winter.

“I have urged Ministers to do the right thing – to not only retain the uplift but go further and remove the benefit cap to help cut poverty in London and across the country – and I will continue to make this case with the Government.”
