County Celebrates Groundbreaking
of Vistas del Puerto Apartments
Long Beach – Officials from the Community Development Commission/Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (CDC/HACoLA) joined representatives from the office of Fourth District Supervisor Janice Hahn, the City of Long Beach, Clifford Beers Housing (the project developer), and other partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Vistas del Puerto Apartments. When completed in June 2020, the project will provide 24 units for homeless households, where at least one member is a frequent utilizer of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services system, 23 units for families with limited means, and one onsite manager’s unit.
The CDC/HACoLA is providing $3.36 million in construction and permanent financing for the project, which will feature a five-story building with four stories of residential housing atop three commercial ground floor spaces and parking. The commercial spaces will house businesses offering services that benefit the residents (i.e. job training, a learning center, and studio activity space). Onsite amenities will include property management and supportive service offices, community rooms and kitchenettes, a roof deck, outdoor courtyard space, and laundry facilities.
Monique King-Viehland, Executive Director of the CDC/HACoLA said, “As an agency, we look beyond just housing people. We want to ensure that tenants have access to the everyday resources they need to live their lives and care for their families.” Vistas del Puerto will be within walking distance to a grocery store, pharmacy, schools, public library, medical clinic, and public transit.
The Mental Health America of Los Angeles, the lead service provider, will assign two onsite case managers and a resident services coordinator. Residents will be offered intensive case management and individual service plans, benefits assistance and advocacy, mental health assessment and counseling, employment training and placements, life skills training, representative payee/money management services, organized community activities, transportation, and linkages to supportive aid.
