SANTO DOMINGO, REPUBLICA DOMINICANA – 31 de enero de 2019 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Jessy Terrero, fundador y presidente de Cinema Giants, fue honrado el miércoles con el premio Camilo Carrau en el 12º Festival de Cine Global Dominicano, el evento cinematográfico más importante del Caribe.
Nombrado en honor al cinematógrafo más importante de la República Dominicana, el reconocimiento se otorga a alguien que represente un “orgullo nacional del cine” para el país, dijo el director del festival, Omar de la Cruz.
Terrero es conocido por los vibrantes videos musicales que dirige y produce para varios artistas famosos, como Maluma, Nicky Jam, Steve Aoki, Jennifer López, Ozuna, J Balvin, Snoop Dogg y Daddy Yankee. También dirigió dos largometrajes, Soul Plane con Kevin Hart, que también produjo, y Freelancerscon Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson y Robert DeNiro.
Su reconocimiento internacional más reciente vino con su innovadora serie biográfica, “Nicky Jam: El Ganador”, una producción original de Netflix lanzada en noviembre.
“Jessy siempre ha sido un amigo de nuestro festival, pero sobre todo es un orgullo para los dominicanos saber que su talento y trabajo han servido para promover la cultura latinoamericana y las historias latinoamericanas”, dijo de la Cruz. “Jessy ha demostrado que las aportaciones de nuestra comunidad son valiosas y que al público le gustan.
“Con gente como Jessy en la industria del cine, ganamos — los dominicanos ganan, los latinoamericanos ganan y el séptimo arte gana”, agregó de la Cruz.
Terrero se unió a otros gigantes de la pantalla en el Festival, entre ellos el actor estadounidense Vin Diesel, conocido por la actuación de Dominic Toretto en la saga de la película The Fast and the Furious y el papel de Richard B. Riddick en la trilogía The Chronicles of Riddick, y el director estadounidense John Singleton, también de la franquicia The Fast and the Furious.
“Es un gran honor que los amantes del cine en mi tierra natal me den este reconocimiento”, dijo Terrero. “Solo quiero contar historias auténticas. Historias sobre nuestra gente, nuestra cultura, nuestras vidas — porque son historias conmovedoras que necesitan ser contadas “.
El Festival, que se extiende hasta el 6 de febrero con más de 80 películas, se inauguró el miércoles por la noche durante una gala en la sala Carlos Piantini del Teatro Nacional.

Jessy Terrero of Cinema Giants Is Honored with ‘National Pride’ Award at Dominican Film Festival
SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – January 31, 2019 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Filmmaker and Cinema Giants founder and president Jessy Terrero was honored Wednesday with the Camilo Carrau award at the 12th annual Dominican Global Film Festival, arguably the most important film event in the Caribbean.
Named after the Dominican Republic’s most important early cinematographer, the recognition goes to someone who bestows the country with “national pride in cinema,” said festival director Omar de la Cruz.
Terrero is known for the vibrant music videos he directs and produces for a number of famous artists, including Maluma, Nicky Jam, Steve Aoki, Jennifer Lopez, Ozuna, J Balvin, Snoop Dogg and Daddy Yankee. He’s also directed two full length feature movies Soul Plane with Kevin Hart, which he also produced, and Freelancers with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Robert DeNiro.
His most recent international acclaim came with his groundbreaking biopic series, “Nicky Jam: El Ganador,” an original Netflix production released in November.
“Jessy has always been a friend of our festival but above all he is a pride for Dominicans to know that his talent and work has served to promote Latin American culture and Latin American stories,” de la Cruz said. “Jessy has shown that our contributions are valuable and that the audience likes them.
“With people like Jessy in the film industry, we win — the Dominicans win, the Latin Americans win and the seventh art wins,” de la Cruz added.
Terrero joined other honorees, including American actor Vin Diesel, known for the performance of Dominic Toretto in the film saga The Fast and the Furious and the role of Richard B. Riddick in the trilogy The Chronicles of Riddick, and American director John Singleton, also from The Fast and the Furious franchise.
“It is such an honor to have the cinema lovers in my homeland give me this recognition,” Terrero said. “I just want to tell authentic stories. Stories about our people, our culture, our lives — because they are compelling stories that need to be told.”
The Festival, which runs until February 6 with more than 80 films, was inaugurated Wednesday night during a gala at the Carlos Piantini hall of the National Theater.
