Los Angeles – Three (3) dramatic Veteran award-winning films will be presented at the historic Bob Hope Patriotic Hall on the first Fridays of April, May and June beginning on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. The County of Los Angeles Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the American Legion Post 628 (Chinatown) are sponsoring the VETFLICKS Film Fest to promote discussion, uniformity, and solidarity with veterans as it relates to each film while meeting the film-makers or actors, and indulging in refreshments.
The first film, Soy Nero, will be shown on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. It brings to life Nero, a deported Mexican, who returns illegally to the U.S. in search of his identity. He joins the U.S army as a Green Card soldier to establish his nationality as an American citizen but gets entangled in the fight to secure it. Starring Johnny Ortiz as Nero Maldonado, Rory Cochrane as Sergeant McCloud, and Ian Casselberry as Jesus Maldonado. Mr. Johnny Ortiz will be at this showing to provide insight on the film and answer any questions.
The second film, Last Man Club, will be shown on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. It peers into the life of WWII veteran, John “Eagle” Pennell, who is on the verge of being sent to a retirement home but escapes and embarks on a cross country journey to find the last surviving members of his B-17 crew. Along the way, he discovers a life affirming view of himself and forgiveness for his family who is trying to stop him. Starring Jim McKrell as Eagle, Kate French as Romy, and Barry Corbin as Pete. Bo Brinkman, the Director will be on site at this showing to discuss the film and respond to inquiries.
The last film, The Man Who Saved The World, will be shown on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. It documents the Russian Lt. Colonel, Stanislav E. Petrov, who lost everything when he decided not to obey superior orders, and thereby changed the fate of the world. Stars included in the documentary include Kevin Costner, Robert De Niro, and Ashton Kutcher. Attending this showing to provide additional information and respond to inquiries will be the Producer, Christian Bruun.
The films will be shown in the General “Jimmy” Doolittle room (basement) of Bob Hope Patriotic Hall. Attendees are asked to invite your family and friends to join them for this cinematic event.
