La isla es rica en flora y fauna, cuenta con 150 especies de aves, una de las más vastas poblaciones de pelícanos, 15 especies de corales, 700 especies de peces y 16 especies de mamíferos, tortugas de mar y ballenas que visitan la isla en gran parte del año, siendo un gran atractivo para los visitantes.
Para preservar este maravilloso hábitat de aves y especies marinas el 70% del total de la isla, aproximadamente 1,100 hectáreas han sido convertidas en una reserva natural privada.
Por su parte, en el 30% de la isla que será desarrollada, aproximadamente unas 400 hectáreas, se aplicaran estrictas medidas en la construcción a fin de que minimicen el impacto al medio ambiente garantizando la conservación de este paraíso natural.
