— Cultural Trends, Digital Influencers and Celebrities to converge at the special Hispanicize L.A. event October 11-12 —
LOS ANGELES, CA – October 4, 2016 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – Golden Globe award-winning actor, director and producer Gael García Bernal will join acclaimed filmmaker Jonás Cuarón (‘Gravity’) at Hispanicize L.A. for the special screening of their latest film ‘Desierto.’
Written, directed and edited by Jonás Cuarón, ‘Desierto’ is a visceral, heart-pounding suspense-thriller packed with tension and suspense from start to finish, starring Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries and Y Tu Mamá También) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, The Walking Dead).
What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante targets a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they horrifyingly discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.
The red carpet, celebrity-filled screening kicks off Hispanicize L.A. and continues the iconic event’s history of launching important films with themes and stories that impact the Latino community. The screening is scheduled for the evening of Oct. 11, the night before the Hispanicize L.A. takes place at The Well (1006 S. Olive St.) in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
“This gripping film could not be more topical to the difficult times we live in and underscores how building walls between neighboring countries only fuel crazy situations, peoples and behaviors,” Manny Ruiz, CEO of Hispanicize Media Group and creative director of the Hispanicize event. “We’re very honored that this specific film will be the one that leads into everything Hispanicize L.A. is about.”
‘Desierto’ premiered to wide acclaim in its debut at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received the International Critics Award. Most recently, the film was selected as Mexico’s official submission as Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th annual Academy Awards. STX Entertainment will release ‘Desierto’ in select U.S. theaters on October 14.
