United States Senator Dianne Feinstein – a leader in national bi-partisan efforts to combat crime and violence, and an effective advocate for crime victims’ rights – today announced her support for Jim McDonnell for Los Angeles County Sheriff.
“I’m proud to offer my support for Chief Jim McDonnell’s candidacy for Los Angeles County Sheriff,” stated U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein.
“Chief McDonnell is a proven leader with an extensive record of success. I have no doubt that Chief McDonnell’s vast experience and commitment to excellence–combined with his dedication to public service makes him uniquely qualified to lead Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department,” Feinstein concluded.
McDonnell has served as Chief of the Long Beach Police Department since 2010 and served as the second in command in the Los Angeles Police Department, announced his candidacy in mid-January. He was appointed to the Los Angeles Citizens’ Commission on Jail Violence, which was created in the Fall of 2011 to “initiate and carry out a community-level review of alleged inappropriate use of force by deputies assigned to the jails.” After a year-long process, the Commission issued a 200 page report in September, 2012, with over 60 recommendations for reform of the LASD and its Custody division.
“When we think of who is at the forefront, on a national level, in the fight to make our communities safer, Senator Dianne Feinstein is at the top of the list,” McDonnell said. “More than anybody, Senator Feinstein works closely with police chiefs to develop professional policing and crime prevention policies. I’m extremely honored to have her respect and support.”
