segobThe Interior Ministry rejection external threats against the priest Tomas Gonzalez Castillo and Ruben Figueroa, human rights defenders of migrants and collaborators in the hostel “The 72-Shelter Home for Migrants”, in Tenosique Tabasco.
This dependence reiterates the recognition of the work done by human rights defenders, in particular, to the humanitarian work carried shelters and their staff for the migrant population.
From the moment that this Department was aware of the threats, actions were implemented to safeguard their lives and safety and allow normal operation of the shelter, including the following:
· By order of the Secretary of the Interior, 11 March 2013 met various federal, state and municipal members of the Casa del Migrante in Tenosique, Tabasco, and agreed protective actions to address the situation.
· He was appointed permanent contacts with the Federal Police, the Mexican Army, the Tabasco state government and municipal authorities, capable of immediate action to ensure the life and safety of human rights defenders, as well as the safety of the hostel.
· Developed coordination activities among the various security corporations. Both the Federal Police and Army personnel have been operating on the premises and conducted patrols near the hostel.
· In response to the investigation into the threats, the Federal Police has been conducting various operations which have resulted in the capture of four people allegedly involved in the events.
· In the presence of personnel of the Unit for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights, today began the installation of infrastructure to ensure the safety of the shelter.
· The Facility Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Journalists sent their staff to perform risk analysis of the case. Security measures are suggested as a result of this analysis will be discussed at the next regular meeting of the Governing Board of the Facility, it is held on March 22, 2013.
