Money affects everyone living in or traveling to Mexico. It is with that in mind that Mexico News Daily has launched a new weekly series called “Mexico and My Money.” You can read about the thinking behind the series here: Mexico and My Money: A new series MND on personal finance.
Our team recently conducted a survey of over 700 expats living in 25 states throughout Mexico about how they handle money while living in the country. The results were striking: Despite wariness of Mexican banks, 71% of respondents own a home in Mexico and nearly eight in 10 have made some kind of investment here — in real estate, a business, stocks or bonds. Nearly one in five respondents said they’d been victimized by a financial crime, with stories ranging from a landlord who kept a deposit “without cause” to a household employee who stole from a family over eight years.
