All stories in El Jalapeño are satire and not real news. Check out the original article here.

President Claudia Sheinbaum was briefly stranded at Cancún International Airport on Saturday after the commercial flight she was expected to take to the World Cup final in New Jersey at Donald Trump’s invitation was delayed and later canceled in favor of military jet, prompting witnesses to report that she spent several hours moving through Terminal 4 like Tom Hanks in “The Terminal,” but with a larger security detail and significantly more exposure to confused passengers in matching resort wristbands.

Airport sources said the terminal adjusted quickly to the unusual overlap of presidential scheduling and peak vacation disorientation, as travelers dragging inflatable neck pillows, duty-free tequila and unresolved check-in grievances repeatedly stopped federal aides to ask whether “this line” was for New York, customs, lounge access or “just kind of life now.” One tourist, still clutching a family-sized sunscreen bottle, said he assumed the president was part of a new premium airport experience. “We thought maybe Cancún had introduced roaming government for elite passengers.”

Officials said Sheinbaum remained calm as the terminal continued to function as the country’s most honest model of national administration: fully staffed, widely announced and governed largely by the principle that everyone should remain attentive for further information that may or may not arrive.

The comparison to “The Terminal” intensified after the president was seen seated near a charging station, reviewing options while surrounded by sleeping passengers, abandoned frappes and a child using a carry-on suitcase as a percussion instrument. Airport concession workers said the atmosphere shifted once travelers realized that the president herself was waiting for updates from a departure screen, and was thus in the same situation as everyone else.

In fact, several passengers said the experience had given them their first meaningful cultural immersion of the trip, as they were forced to spend more than 40 consecutive minutes in Mexico without being handed a welcome cocktail.
