Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has signed a new contract through to 2030.

The 23-year-old centre-back’s previous deal had been due to expire in 2029, having last signed fresh terms in January 2025.

Forest confirmed news that Murillo had extended his stay with the club by an extra year in a statement on Saturday.

“This is my second renewal with the club and I’m feeling so happy,” he said. “It’s a dream and it’s really important for me, my family and my career. It shows me how important I am for the club and that people have confidence in me.

“I also want to thank the fans because they are really important not only for me but also the team, and I am feeling so proud.”

Murillo joined Forest in an £11million move from Corinthians in August 2023 and has made 114 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

The Brazilian has featured 39 times in all competitions this season as Forest survived relegation and reached the Europa League semi-finals.

‘A statement of intent’

Vitor Pereira has recently spoken of his desire to see Nottingham Forest retain the services of their key figures this summer — and tying down Murillo to a new deal is a significant statement of intent on that front.

Forest are braced for the possibility of selling midfielder Elliot Anderson, with Manchester City favourites to land the England man.

But otherwise Pereira — and the club — intend to build on the core of players they have in place.

Pereira believes players including Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic, Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White can provide the foundations on which to build a better campaign next season.

Murillo has previously been monitored by some of the biggest clubs in Europe after making a huge impression at the City Ground.

As a left sided central defender who is comfortable on the ball and is armed with pace, Murillo has formed a formidable partnership with Milenkovic.

He played a part as Forest plotted a course to the semi-final of the Europa League and this demonstration of commitment to the club will be a timely boost ahead of the final game of the season against Bournemouth on Sunday.
