Evian, France– July 10th, 2020 – The United States has some of the most prestigious schools and universities in the world. Still, some American parents are choosing to send their children to study in Europe.
To study, but also to follow their dream and have the best chance to turn their passion into their future career. The passion? European Football, or soccer as it is called in the U.S. The sport, which has seen its growth come in recent years in the U.S., has already been established as the most popular sport around the world, with an estimated 3.5 billion people watching the 2018 World Cup (vs. 98.2 million viewers for the last Super Bowl).
Many young fans and players have once dreamed about becoming a professional European football player. The ultimate goal being to play in Europe, a dream made possible by the International Center of European Football (ICEF), Europe’s official football institution providing the professional training and preparation required to play at the highest level of football in the world. ICEF is a unique opportunity for talented players from all over the world, to take full advantage of European methodologies. Training and competition programs are implemented and developed by UEFA / FFF certified technical directors, paired with off the field preparation that brings together equally qualified educators from Middle School & High School to Bachelor’s and Master’s programs (accredited Cambridge International Education Program and IGCSE preparation, American High School program and Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in partnership with Webster University Geneva and Geneva Business School). The student-athlete experience at ICEF gives players the opportunity to mature a competitive advantage to build a successful life on and off the field. Academic programs are carefully selected for each student-athlete to ensure that they are on track to meet their graduation requirements, whether in Europe or in their home country.
It is no surprise that American parents are enrolling their children in this elite program in Europe. For these families, their child spending a year at ICEF means they will be able to pursue their dream, while receiving an excellent education and gaining tremendous soft skills, learning a new language, and expanding their cultural horizons. A very valuable experience, that will set them apart, whether they decide to pursue a career in football, or enroll in a prestigious university in the U.S.
“We chose this center because we think that Europe is much more appropriate in terms of player development and much more demanding. The decision was difficult on a family standpoint, but going to France to learn football was a no brainer.”
– Sebastian H. Dad of an ICEF student-athlete
The center is located in Evian, France, at the border with Switzerland, only 40 minutes away from Geneva International Airport. Student-athletes experience boarding life in a protected environment, in one of the safest regions in the world, at the crossroads of all major European clubs. The professional center features state-of-the-art facilities and top-of-the-line amenities, including heated and lighted natural and turf fields, a professional gym, massage, and recovery rooms, and shared double rooms with high-speed Wi-Fi and air conditioning.
ICEF’s Covid-19 response has already been implemented at the center. The ICEF team has elevated and reinforced the health and safety standards to provide an even safer campus to all student-athletes for the peace of mind of their families. The Greater Geneva area benefits from being one of Europe’s low-risk areas, thanks to its population density. Switzerland and the Evian-les-Bains region, where our center is located, are amongst the safest and healthiest in Europe.
With the current uncertainty regarding the upcoming school year in the U.S., parents are choosing to maximize their child’s school year and football season in a safer environment, where their child can benefit from a pro European football preparation and an excellent academic preparation.
