Channel 1 Los Angeles

January 12, 2020 – Khartoum, Sudan – Global Affairs Canada

Today, Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rob Oliphant, and Sudan Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok are pleased to announce Canada and Sudan’s intention to reciprocally elevate diplomatic representation to the Ambassadorial level.

This is an important time for Sudan. The people of Sudan have shown their determination to make their voices heard since the beginning of peaceful demonstrations in December, 2018. Through many difficult moments, the people of Sudan have exhibited great courage in their fight for freedom. Elevated diplomatic representation will allow our countries to enhance our communication and cooperation during this important transition.

Canada recognizes the opportunity that exists in this new era for Sudan. As the Government of Sudan continues to implement the terms of the constitutional agreement, Canada looks forward to partnering with the Government of Sudan and is committed to the ongoing success of this democratic transition.
