Canada to increase the deployment of Canadian experts abroad

August 20, 2019 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

Canada is home to internationally recognized and sought-after expertise in various sectors that advance poverty reduction—sectors such as gender equality, education and vocational training, justice reform, natural resource management, and transparency and anti-corruption policies.

Today, the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality, announced the Technical Assistance Partnership (TAP), Global Affairs Canada’s initiative to increase the deployment of Canadian experts abroad in response to the needs of countries eligible for official development assistance (ODA).

The TAP program will contribute to poverty reduction in ODA-eligible countries by enhancing the capacity of national-level institutions to manage policies and practices in a more gender-responsive and inclusive way; promoting social, political and economic opportunities in partner countries; and increasing awareness and engagement of Canadians as partners and global citizens in support of Canada’s international assistance efforts.

Quotes

“The Technical Assistance Partnership is Canada’s response to the needs expressed by partner countries. We will work with governments of developing countries to improve their ability to deliver programs that support gender equality at all levels of government in all sectors.”

– Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality

Quick facts
