Seven Different Players Scored in Group C Opener of Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico (May 13, 2019) – The U.S. Beach Soccer National Team began the 2019 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship in convincing fashion, routing newcomers Bonaire 14-1 on Monday afternoon at the Visit Puerto Vallarta Stadium in Mexico.

Tanner Akol got things started with a bicycle kick in the first minute to set the tone. He then added another on a shot from 20 yards, which was followed by two of Nick Perera’s five on the day, including a bike and converted penalty kick after Oscar Reyes drew the call near the sideline.

The USA built on the lead in the second period with seven goals. Alessandro Canale set up two goals for David Mondragon – including one on a bike; Jason Leopoldo scored on a volley and penalty kick, and Ryan Futagaki, Oscar Reyes and Perera added goals from the run of play.

Bonaire tallied their first-ever goal in the tournament to start the third period. A foul was called on USA defender Adriano dos Santos, and Bonaire’s Henrich Beaumont hit the direct kick past the diving attempt of USA goalkeeper Juan Cervantes, who played the second and start of the third period. The USA added two more goals by Perera and one from dos Santos to close out the rout.

Up Next: The USA will face Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday, May 15. In the first match between the two other USA opponent, Bahamas defeated Antigua and Barbuda 7-4 earlier in the day. All of the USA’s matches can be seen live on UDN and the ConcacafGo app.
