In the Hall of the Treasury of the National Palace Mexico City, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said:
Labour reform is an advancement for workers to choose freely and with secret ballots from their union leaders, who will no longer be forced; It is, he said, a change that was made possible by the participation of all sectors.
He added that the reform adheres to the demand for international labour rights standards and that it will now be up to US legislators to finish approving the agreement.
The Economist Jesús Seade, representative of the Government of Mexico in the negotiations, explained that labor reform is modern and ambitious, with elements of protection to workers by providing stability in jobs and wage justice.
