When companies across the country are able to expand their exports abroad, it leads to more well-paying jobs for middle-class Canadians. The Government of Canada is committed to significantly bolstering export opportunities for Canadian start-ups and established businesses through trade deals and innovative trade services that make them more competitive on the global stage.

Today, the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification, will be in Montréal to highlight the expanded opportunities available to Canadian entrepreneurs abroad through Canada’s trade diversification strategy.

While in Montréal, the Minister will meet with representatives of local start-ups and established businesses to promote the support and services the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) provides to help Canadian firms from all sectors compete in international markets.

Canada’s trade diversification strategy sets an ambitious target of increasing exports by 50% by 2025. To support businesses in that effort, the Government of Canada announced new measures as part of the 2018 Fall Economic Statement that will:

  • provide resources to small and medium-sized enterprises to help them explore new export opportunities;
  • enhance trade services for Canadian exporters; and
  • help Canadian innovators add value, succeed and grow their businesses.
