Over 80 international law enforcement, security, counternarcotic, and judicial officials arrive in the United States today on the Towards a More Safe and Secure World initiative. Participants will spend three weeks meeting with their counterparts across the United States. These partnerships between the United States and other countries enhance efforts to combat transnational crime.

Representatives from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureaus of Educational and Cultural Affairs, International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and Counterterrorism will speak at the program orientation in Washington, D.C. Participants will then attend a two-day seminar co-sponsored by the National Defense University before traveling to cities across the United States to meet with federal, regional, and local law enforcement officers and public officials. Consultations will focus on mutual threats related to terrorism, border security, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, cyber security, and trafficking in persons.

The initiative will conclude with a Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Taskforce Training in Tampa, Florida, followed by the annual Global Security Conference sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the FBI’s New York Field Office in New York City.
